“The Inferior Sex” Project

The Vanta Guild was commissioned by Trinity Repertory Company to produce a photo series inspired by the recent production of The Inferior Sex, a play about a feminist fashion magazine challenged with politically and racially diversifying its content during the presidential campaign of Shirley Chisholm in the 1970s.

Directed by Melaine Ferdinand-King, The Vanta Guild collaborated with 6 New England-based women photographers to create 70s-inspired photos that reflected their unique lens on U.S. women’s history. 

Photos were displayed throughout the theatre during the show’s run and utilized in the on-stage play as part of the magazine’s world.
